Deborah Taffa is a citizen of the Quechan (Yuma) Nation and Laguna Pueblo. Director of Creative Writing (MFA) at the Institute of American Indian Arts, Taffa’s Whiskey Tender, a 2024 National Book Award Finalist, was also a 2025 Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction longlisted title. Named one of 2024’s Top 10 books by The Atlantic, Audible, and Time Magazine, her debut was also included on best and notable lists at The New Yorker, Elle, Esquire, NPR, The Washington Post, Oprah Daily, and Publisher’s Weekly.
David Meischen is the author of Nopalito, Texas: Stories (University of New Mexico Press, 2024) and Caliche Road Poems (Lamar University Literary Press, 2024). Anyone’s Son, from 3: A Taos Press, won Best First Book of Poetry from the Texas Institute of Letters in 2020. A Pushcart honoree, with a personal essay in Pushcart Prize XLII, David is cofounder and Managing Editor of Dos Gatos Press. He lives in Albuquerque, NM with his husband—also his co-publisher and co-editor—Scott Wiggerman.
An award-winning spoken word artist, poet, speaker, and author, El'Ja Bowens has done work with the John Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts, Poetry Foundation, and the National Endowment of the Arts along with featuring at many festivals including the National Folk Festival, Big Ears Festival, Book'em NC Festival, North Carolina Readers Conference, and Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival. He is the founder/director for the Southeast Regional NC Poetry Slam in Fayetteville, NC and he has featured on Poetry Slam Inc and All Def Poetry on YouTube. He also hosts Nerd Slam competitions at numerous comicons across the US. He also has featured in the documentary, Talking Black in America: Performance Traditions.
Billy Tuggle is a parent, educator, mentor, performer, and proud South Side Chicagoan. A poetry slam champion, Billy won the 2006 Rustbelt Poetry Slam; multiple Chicago Grand Slams; was the 2015 National Poetry Slam Haiku Champion; and recognized by The Odyssey Online as one of the top 30 slam poets over 30. Two volumes, several chapbooks, and numerous anthology and journal placements under his belt, Billy was nominated for Best of the Net (2019) and was one of the initial nominees for Chicago Poet Laureate (2023). His latest collection, A Tree Falls In The Hood, is available from Swimming With Elephants Press.
Brennan DeFrisco is a poet, educator, editor & drinker of coffee from the San Francisco Bay Area. He’s been a National Poetry Slam finalist, a Pushcart Prize nominee, runner-up for the Drake University Emerging Writer Award, & 2017 Grand Slam Champion of the Oakland Poetry Slam. He’s the author of A Heart With No Scars (Nomadic Press) & has served as poetry editor on the mastheads of Lunch Ticket & Meow Meow Pow Pow. Brennan is the Contra Costa County coordinator for California Poets and facilitates creative writing and performance workshops as a teaching artist in schools, juvenile centers, and various arts education programs. His work has been published in Words Dance, Red Wheelbarrow, Drunk in a Midnight Choir, Collective Unrest, & elsewhere. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles.
